In 1935, American publisher George Macey offered the great Henri Matisse $5,000 to create as many etchings as this budget would afford for a special illustrated edition of Ulysses. I had no idea.

Many people have asked about my fascination with James Joyce and his masterpiece, Ulysses. I have tried to explain that it represents more than just the single best piece of literature I have ever or ever will read in my life.
